Anybody done the ferry route Algeciras- International port lately, did it 3 years ago and swore i would never use again.as it was then necessay to quue up on the boat to have your passport checked, there was no bank for changing currancy except driving out of port and in through the other entrence 2 miles away ,then you still couldnt get car insurance
its may be 200e cheaper than cettue but never again unless its improved

You can find an ATM at the port building. Or smile at the lassie in the shop at the port to change some Euros........Oh and the key to not having to queue for your passport stamp is to wait till last, get a bacon and eggs first ( I'm serious!) and get the earliest ferry...it may not be so busy.

Thanks
So it does not look as if anything changed ,not worth it to save 70 Euro for 4 and a car return, as we still have to rush about and get insurance . Last time was told to drive carefully to nearest town and get it there. Drive careful in Morocco ??

Yeah I took a mad dash Grand Taxi from the port to Tangier OMG what an introduction. I thought they drove on the right! Exhilarating though. Not sure I'd want to drive my own car there.

You get used to it , the Moroccans have build in radar, that bulks when it looks like a dent coming, swerve. Its the pedestrians that worry me as having a white car, the blood clashes , if you really want scary driving try new Deli India, 30 people a mouth on average are killed in that city every month , by buses!

i wrote this 3 years ago and its still valid
Most roads in Morocco are up to European standards, except the ones to small villages which can be graded rough track. GPS is do work in Morocco but only shows the main roads, but it can be handy. As this seems to be possibly your first expedition in driving in Morocco, I'd pasted in a quick guide arriving in Morocco, that you might find handy
Driving in Morocco is an interesting experience, a freestyle type driving is adopted by everybody, and pedestrians think the whole of Morocco is one large pedestrian precinct. You will have to overcome a over powering desire to run pedestrian over, as they saunter across in front of you, walking straight out without looking.
And please try and avoid running over any innocent policeman on traffic duty who have the same idea.
However drivers have this inbuilt obstruction avoidance attitude, so just steer round you if you do decide to go the wrong way round a roundabout.
These are now being slowly changed to the international method, you give way as you enter the roundabout, however be wary of the 10% that hadn't been changed, where you have to give way, if you are on the roundabout you give way to traffic on your right. Confusing but fun. But roundabouts are usually only found on the main road or in big cities
However out of the towns most of the roads are empty, and well surfaced and a dream to drive .1950s driving in a Victorian country. Just avoid the odd pothole which is difficult to avoid when you suddenly see it at 70 miles an hour.

LOL what you are talking. Anyway if you go from Tarifa to Tangier Ville then maybe it would be more easy to get a car insurance if you say it is difficult to get it in Tangier Med and you have to drive 2 miles without to be insured.
To drive in Morocco it is no problem, it is funny also, I love it. The main roads are good maintained, good signed too. Only avoid to drive in the dark, follow the rules and in cities best is to not drive at all if you not need.
