Hello all - I hope someone out there can give me some advice. We (my husband, two teenage children and I) want to go to Morocco in December. We live in Mali, and have a 4X4 vehicle, so I had the bright idea of driving to Morocco. I thought through Senagal to Dakar (have done this bit before so no problem there), straight up through Mauritania to Morocco. Note our destination is Morocco, so want to get there as quickly as possible. Two questions: is it do-able and how long would it take. We would have camping stuff with us, so can anyone recommend campsites along the way. Any other practical suggestions would be most welcome

The road from Nouakchott is good tarmac all the way, with the exception of a few kms through nomansland at the Mauri side of the border with Morocco. Plenty of gas stations and essntial shopping for supplies in Morocco. For good info on camp sites try www.horizonsunlimited.com/hubb</a><BR><BR>Dave

Die Sanitäranlagen sind nicht sehr gepflegt, warmes Wasser nur bei Bedarf. Preise: Der Preis von 2.500 UM pro Person ist im Vergleich zu anderen Plätzen recht hoch, für Strom kommen noch extra 1.000 UM hinzu.

Anfahrt: von Nouadhibou aus gelangt man an der Einfahrt zur Stadt noch auf der vierspurigen Straße nach mehreren Kreiseln an einen mit einem Wegweiser zum Hospital geradeaus. Dort liegt auf der anderen Straßenseite die Auberge Sahara. Die Mitinhaberin der Auberge, Kania, ist Französin und spricht sehr gut Englisch. Es gibt mehrere Schlafräume, deren Betten mit Moskitonetzen verse-hen sind. Im kleinen Garten ist ein Nomadenzelt zum Schlafen. Besonders hübsch ist die Terrasse, dort gibt es zwei Zimmer sowie mehrere Zelte zum Schlafen. Im Schlaf-saal 2.000 UM pro Person,, im Zelt 1.500 UM, eigenes Zimmer 4.000 UM. Frühstück mit Orangen- oder Mangosaft 1.000 UM. Im Hof Stellmöglichkeit für etwa 8 WoMos. Wenn das nicht ausreicht ist vor dem Tor ein großer Parkplatz mit Parkwächter. Es gibt warme Duschen und alles ist sehr sauber und ordentlich. Preis 1.500 UM pro Person inkl. Strom.

Dies ist eine wahre Oase im Stadtzentrum gegenüber dem Polizeihauptquartier. Der Inhaber Ali Mahjoub und sein jüngerer Bruder Ahmeida können Geld wechseln und die Autoversicherung selbst am Sonntag organisieren und auch sonst viele Fragen bez. Routen und Machbarkeit beant-worten. Die beiden sind sehr vertrauenswürdig. Ein idealer erster Anlaufpunkt in Mau-retanien. In der Saison sollte man vorreservieren, da der Platz nicht groß ist, ist dies bei spätem Eintreffen empfehlenswert. Dies ist der angenehmste Campingplatz in der Stadt, sehr netter Empfang.
On the moroccan side of the border is a small hotel, nice, clean and proper. Next camping in Dakhla, 400 km.
Don't leave the road between the border and Dakhla, there are still mines.
