Hello. We will be in Morocco for 16 nights. We'll be in Fez during the Sacred Music Festival. Was thinking of taking a day trip to Chefchaouen. Or, a side trip to a nice town on the Med coast. Does anyone have any other suggestions. I have 5 tour books, we are going independently. I am on tour book overload. I would like to hear all of your suggestions. We are also staying in Menkes for 2 nights, and will visit Volubilis. So, anyother ideas?? Thanks, Lori

hello,

through my visit to Morocco, i have come through Fez and , Meknes, the bg dunes of the south. THe subilme of them is the desert and the big dunes in Morocco.I have been infatuated with the panorma, the landscapes, the plains, the palm trees and the special life of nomads.I really adore the place. So i want u to have this attempt and sacrifice all the time to this irrepracable and unblamed area.it's n fact unforgotable and through ur trips u will stick in ur mind everlasting memories.Mainly, Erg Chegaga is the most famous dunes in the south of Morocco and the one that i liked much.

We will also be staying in Marrakesh for a week, and going to the sand dunes. Most likely we will do Erg Chagaga. It is Fez I am stuck on for what day/overnight trip to do. Thanks!

Chefchaouen is not a day trip from Fez - it is nearly four hours of mountainous, bumpy roads in each direction.

I typed up a reply, but then realized you said you're visiting Meknes - oops!

Okay - I would suggest, then, visiting either Azrou or Sefrou. I can't say much for the latter, having not been, but Azrou is a gorgeous little Berber town about an hour and a half from Fez - you can take a bus there, I believe, or take one to Ifrane, have a cappuccino at one of their fancy cafes, then take a grand taxi.

The highlights of Azrou are the big rock that it's named after, which has a crown on top ("azrou" means "rock" in Chleuh), the central mosque with cedar detailing, and the Barbary Apes just outside of the town.
