Hi - I have a 6 hour layover at CMN airport and am wondering whether it gives me enought time to go anywhere.

I arrive at 18:30 (from London) and depart at 00:30 (to Accra). I know there's an hourly train into the city, and taxis, but in that it will be dark will it be worth the hassle? Are there any closer nearby neighbourhoods suitable for a meal, a walk and a cup of tea? I don't need to see anything special, just to get out of the airport for a while. I'm guessing 6 hours in the terminals won't be wildly exciting...

My bag will be in transit so I won't have to worry about that.

Thanks - Andrew

..... to make a few comments..... I know there's an hourly train into the city but for the return journey the Trains finish at about 22.00h.

Assuming your inward flight is on schedule.... a quick trip into the city station Casa Voyageurs where you find the City-Petit-taxis and the Trams outside, http://www.casatramway.ma/sites/default/files/pieces/plan-casa-tram-agence.png

For trains... http://www.oncf.ma/ Airport M. V. to Casa Voyageurs (Casa Travellers)

In the main tourists areas businesses stay open a bit late and you should find a decent meal, or at transport hubs but the meals and places can be hit or miss, otherwise local places tend to wind-up early, only during Ramadan do you find the local restaurants open late at night into early morning.
Find a Golden Arches or similar if you just need to refuel.

And late at night the taxi rates cost more.!

I would not recommend you to go to Casablanca, you have not so much time. You arrive at 18:30 to Casa, it take about one hour sometimes before you are ready with all controls. To go to Casa even by taxi it takes one half hour at least so you can be in center at 20.00. Your flight depart at 00:30, you need to be at airport 1,5-2 hours before, even if you not need check in your luggage.
At airport you have hotel so you can stay there if you not want to sit in transit the whole time. There are also restaurants so you can eat there. I know, it is not so funny to sit at airport so many times, but is it worth to go out and have stress? I did so many times when flying to Dakar, Banjoul or Abidjan, had also to wait many hours at airport, but preferred this than have hurry and be nervous that something happen on the way and I miss the plane.

We travel because we need to. Because the distance and difference are the secret tonics to the creativity. When we get home, home is still the same, but something in our minds has changed, and that changes everything.

Well, I know that feeling that I will miss something especial if I will not leave airport if I have thete 5-6 hours.
Already many times I left airports on diffetent places of world for few hours. Allways I get nervous if I will be on time for plane...but still I du it quite offten.

So your trip to Casablanca is doable.
It will be expensive because taxi back, in teality Casablanca do not have any amazing sights (and especially not open so late), but its pleasant town.
Do not count with some gteat dinner - you will not have time for it.
But you can have some 2 hours in the city centet, some quick dinner and short walk.

I will go for it.

On other hand as my last flight to / from Marocco with Ryanair was only 21 EUR one way its maybe more reasonable to fly to Marocco for a weekend later this year...
