We have a two week trip coming up next year towards the end of April.

We are starting in Agadir and ending in Tangier.

We have a rough route and vague itinerary but would welcome any input/suggestions of places to go, routes to take, things to do, etc.

Budget and type of holiday could probably be described as 'Flashpacking'!

See for instance this two weeks trip:

But it's in the south. Alternatively you might deviate and from Merzouga head north to Fez and then to Tangier.

Thanks Alfredm. Our initial thoughts are something like;

Agadir --> Marrakech --> Fez --> Tangier
We would hope to fit in an Atlas Mountains/Ouzoud Falls daytrip and a Chefchaouen daytrip as well.

...... getting into a good guidebook with a selection of suggested itineraries, something like the LonelyPlanet or a Cadogan guide to mention just two, would give you an oversight of Morocco and possible routes.

To mention the low cost Rail-network in Morocco, it is however only from Marrakech and farther north, so a bus is required between Agadir and there. The Railway company (ONCF) has an intergrated Bus network(Supratours) to reach parts of Morocco not reached trains, tickets purchased can be for a combination of train and bus.... http://www.oncf.ma/ ... consider using the Railway as frame for your travel.

This older thread is a bit like your trip only in reverse, for longer and travelling farther, a budget trip, you might some ideas from it.....

As indicated, try to read a guidebook first because you have "plenty" of itineraries and you will be able to choose regarding your interests.

Thanks for the replies. I should probably clarify our background and plans.

A couple of years back my girlfriend/wife and I backpacked for 8+ months across Russia, Mongolia, China, Hong Kong, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Laos, Thailand (again), and India.

We now have jobs and a mortgage but still have the backpacker bug. We've picked Morroco as it was affordable, a bit different and somewhere we've never been.

We were inspired by this route https://www.gapyear.com/articles/258817/how-to-backpack-morocoo-in-2-weeks and are currently reading a Rough Guide to Morroco for more ideas. The following is set in stone;

Day 1 Plane arrives in Agadir 9:30am
Day 2 Agadir
Day 3 ?
Day 4 ?
Day 5 ?
Day 6 ?
Day 7 ?
Day 8 ?
Day 9 ?
Day 10 ?
Day 11 ?
Day 12 Tangier
Day 13 Plane leaves Tangier 12:25pm

From there I've come up with this as a plan;

Day 1 Plane arrives in Agadir 9:30am
Day 2 Agadir
Day 3 BUS Agadir to Marrakesh (3/4hrs)
Day 4 Marrakesh
Day 5 Marrakesh (Day trip to Waterfalls?)
Day 6 Marrakesh (Day trip to Atlas?)
Day 7 TRAIN Marrakesh to Fez (8hrs)
Day 8 Fez
Day 9 Fez
Day 10 TRAIN Fez to Tangier (5hrs)
Day 11 Tangier (Day trip to Chefchaouen?)
Day 12 Tangier
Day 13 Plane leaves Tangier 12:25pm

Looking at the transport routes online this is roughly the travel times and durations;

BUS Agadir to Marrakesh
(3/4hrs - 7am to 10:30am)

TRAIN Marrakesh to Fez
(8hrs - 08:45am to 4:20pm)

TRAIN Fez to Tangier
(5hrs - 8am to 2pm)

Does this seem a doable plan?
Is this the best route between Agadir and Tangier?
Anything we should do as well, instead or not at all?
What would be the best day trips and/or activities to do based on this route?

Hi guys!
It isn't exactly flashpacking but I highly recommend dropping by Immesoune and what we think is the best surf town in Morocco! It was also our all-time favorite of 2 months backpacking in Morocco.

It's a tiny beach town with a laid back backpacker vibe about 80 km from Agadir. There's plenty of cheap and rustic backpacker accommodation and also a few more upscale but still rustic places (for instance you can sleep in old boats that have been turned into cabins).

Good luck! :)

There are plenty of possible itineraries, so it's kind of hard to suggest one, but I would just say that Fez should be on it. Probably the best medina in Morocco.

If you want to go also to waterfall Ouzoud, then you can actually take CTM bus to Beni Mellal, then taxi to Ouzoud and stay overnight there. Next day by CTM bus again continue to Fes, you skip in such case backtrack to Marrakech and the long way by train via Casablanca etc.
look at www.ctm.ma
Daytrip to Atlas from Marrakech you can go to Asni for example, by bus.

We travel because we need to. Because the distance and difference are the secret tonics to the creativity. When we get home, home is still the same, but something in our minds has changed, and that changes everything.

In response to #8

That sounds like a better idea than going back on ourselves, thanks - I'll look into it.
