Hi there,

We arrive in Tana on 25th Oct and fly home on 16th Nov. We are a couple that are used to travelling on a fairly low budget and are looking for some advice and tips on getting around Madagascar and what to see, do etc. The rough plan we have is to head from Tana to Morondava first (spend a couple of days or so around there) and then backtrack to the RN7 and make our way down to Toliara over the next 2 weeks before making a beeline back to Tana.

So I guess some of the main points we…

Itinerary help

So I'm in Madagascar right now and still trying to figure out my itinerary. I'm in Diego right now planning on staying a couple more days before heading south. I'm gonna stop at Amber Mountain NP and Ankarana NP before heading to Nosy Be (Nosy Komba). From there I was planning on continuing south to Ankarafantsika NP and after that over to Andasibe NP (Mitsinjo). To me it seems as if I'd have a couple of days left so I was wondering if there's anything on the way, respectively not too far out of…

Nosy Mangabe

When my husband and I visited this Island July 2014 we had the place entirely to ourselves. It was fantastic! Like a private paradise! We camped and strolled on the beach and went on many nature walks. Our guide, a local named Donna (pronounced "Doughna") was awesome!!!! We spoke with him on the phone in English (he also speaks and writes French), he met us at the airport, and arranged all our transpiration, lodging, food, guided walks etc. The cost was 470.000 Ar for two days and one night…

Hi everyone! We reached Tana on Saturday, but my girlfriend backpack didn't, and nobody knows where it is. In the case they don't find it, we need to buy some good travel gear, including clothes, backpack, mosquito net, mosquito repellent and high SPF sunscreen. Also, we need to find Malarone tablets. Where can we find these stuff (good quality) in Antananarivo? Or better, in Ile Sainte Marie (We're heading there today)? Also, we will probably need receipts for the stuff, so it is also a factor

Hi,

Has anyone gone overland from Sambava (on the N. E. Coast) to Diego Suarez? I am presuming it's taxi-brousse, any idea how long it takes and, more importantly, if it's do-able? (in Oct, so no rain) Merci!

Hi there,

Next week my girlfriend and I will be in Ile Sainte Marie, probably sleeping in Isle Aux Nattes. Are the whales still around? Any recommendations on where to see them? Any good and not expensive supplier for this type of excursion? Same for diving - where are the good diving sites? Any recommended centers?

Thanks,
Ophir

Hi!

My friend and I are stuck for what to do once we have finished our placement in Toliara. We have just under 3 weeks of free time after we finish in Toliara and would like to see the avenue of the Baobabs near Morondava if possible.

We also wanted to know what is a good price for getting from Tana to Toliara by hiring a driver? And is it possible to hire a driver to get us back to Tana from Toliara as it seems its a lot simpler to get on a tour from Tana to anywhere else in the country but…

Hi,
I'm flying to mada in 3 weeks time & have finally pinned down the places I most want to see but, as yet, have struggled to turn it in any sort of itinery that doesnt involve a lot of flights or car & driver hire. Most of my plans focus around the (apparently troublesome!) East coast but also taking in a few places further south and, if at all possible in the time frame & on a total budget of about £1000, the tsingys, kirindy and the allee des baobabs. Realistically, I dont think I can…

Hello !

I'm flying to Madagascar on the 15th october for ten weeks. It's the first time i'm travelling for so long outside of Europe and I'm completely on my own. I would like to combine backpacking with local volunteering for free accomodation and/or food, is that possible ? Are there any local organisation who are looking for volunteers ? I was also asking myself, is it easy to find places where you can meet other backpackers ? And where should I look for cheap, but decent accomodation ? Do…

Hi
Is the old railcar which goes once a week from Tana to Andasibe still running ?
What about the Fianarantsoa-Cote Est railway- who has been on that and is it worth it ?
Thanks
