Luggage Delay

I was scheduled to take a flight from Antananarivo to Mahajanga on Tues early morning but the flight was delayed. This is not an unusual occurrence but what was different this time was that none of our baggage was able to come with us as we were put on very small prop plane that held about 18 people.
Only bags we had were our carry on could come with us.
I had two other bags that totaled 43.5 kilos that I had to hope would arrive and remember to lock your luggage.
Air Mad said our bags would…

Hey all! I just arrived in Tana yesterday and after having my wallet stolen (then returned) and paying $20 per taxi ride, and looking up tours that all seem to cost thousands of dollars, not to mention the locals all telling me that I'm going to get robbed if I walk anywhere alone, any time, I'm starting to feel a little out of my depth with my thoughts of traveling alone for cheap and I'd love to meet up and adventure with someone. I'm in Tana right now and in Madagascar until Oct 25th…

Hi crew,

I've been in Mada for almost 4 weeks now and it is an incredible country! Ive been in the south so planning on heading up north around the 10th of October. Would be stoked for a travel buddy! (I fly out from Tana on the 30th)
Main point of post! has anyone used taxi brousse to get to Nosy Be? I'm planning on it taking 4ish days, but would love to get more info on good stop over towns etc, any details? Or should I cringe and pay up to fly from Tana? The sense of adventure and penny…

Money Rates

Came through Ivato airport 9/24/14 and changed usa dollars. International rates were a bit different from the four official money changers found in International terminal from 2395 to 2300 ( in ariary). Interesting that the money changer called "best" offered the lowest rate at 2,300.

As always over the years I have walked the 100 steps over to domestic terminal to the one official money changer and got the rate of 2,450 ariary.
I changed the most dollars I felt comfortable with, for…

Myself and another thorn tree user are getting together to make the journey from Tana to Kirindy next week. As it stands, we're planning to try and get overnight taxi brousse from Tana to Morondava, then private car & driver from morondava to kirindy.
I therefore have 2 questions:
1) Is it possible to do the tana to morondava section overnight? Ive read that it is unsafe to do at night, but also been told its fine.
2) how much should we expect to pay for the car and driver to take us to kirindy…

Hello there,

I consider travelling to Madagascar with a friend of mine in February. Low season itself is no matter, actually I prefer it due to less tourists travelling around. I read through the Lonely Planet guide quite a bit, and as it seems, visiting Madascar between January and March should be avoided (due to heavy rain - which makes getting around near impossible). Once there, I wouldnt want to miss out alot just because one is unable to get around.

Is there someone who can share…

Hey there!
Will be flying to Nosy Be and am wondering if it will be easy to find a taxi at the airport to take me to
my hotel at Madirokely Beach and how much this should cost?

Also, from Nosy Be I will fly to Tana and have a night stopover there, and will again need transport to
my hotel in Tana and back the next day, is taxi the only way and how much should that cost?

Thanks very much!

North VS South

HI All,
I am going to Madagascar with my wife for 16 days in October. We are still not sure about the intinerary, we were thinking about doing only North or only South, our concern is that willing to do everything we might not see anything calmly.
One option would be Tana to Toliara and from there a bit north Towards Baobab Avenue and Tsingy national park.
The other oprion would be to head north from Tana.
In both cases we might think about taking a flight to get back to Tana if it makes…

So I just got back from a month in Madagascar. Found it to be an adventurous trip and just right for the more experienced or slightly jaded traveller. We didn't speak much French, but somehow got buy. I did feel a bit ignorant for not speaking much though so consider it worth learning some.

I went from Tana to Moromanga (2500 in a taxi brousse)
Moromanga to Andasibe (2000ar taxi brousse)
We hired the national park 4x4 to go to Mantadia National Park for 90000ar return. Can thoroughly recommend…

We would like to visit Tsingy de Bemaraha in mid-December this year but find it difficult to organise any transport there. I understand the raining season will just be starting but we would still like to give it try. Can anyone who did Tsingy in December suggest how we can get our trip organised? I wrote to some tour agencies but they do not operate in December. Do you think it is worth simply going to Morondava hoping to get some transport from there. We would go to Morondava only because of…
