Hello everybody
I plan to pack my bicycle, and start a tour in April, from Tana for as far as I can in two weeks or so. I will be alone, unless my wife forces me to take a companion.
I can take care of the technical aspects of such a tour, I have done it before elsewhere, three times already. I also know some basic french, this will improve drastically during the coming weeks.
Any suggestions or comments (you are drunck, go get some sleep!) will be highly appreciated.
If you're in Tana on New Year's Eve and wish to hoist a brew (or other beverage) to the New Year, please respond in this thread.

I am planning to stay in Madagascar for 4 weeks ( end of december until end of january) with two friends. At the moment we are preparing a route for our tour. We want to start from Tana tavelling to the west coast ( Antsirabe, Miandrivazo, drifting down the Tsiribihina River, visiting the Reserve Forestiere de Kirindy and/or the Parc National des Tsingy de Bemaraha). Afterwards we want to travel from Morondava south to Toliara.
This route arises some questions for us and we hope…

My wife and I (Americans, mid-60's, French speaking, living in South Africa) are planning a trip to Mad next May. We would like to travel by public transport to get closer to the culture and people. Our plan is to ride in vehicles that travel on the tar roads, mostly in the Highlands plus Ankarafantsika NP. We plan to stay in lower mid-range accomodation. Does this sound like a good way to experience the island without the expense and the group factor?

I'm flying to Madagascar in mid-December for a month and was planning to make a trip from Tana down to the Tsiribihina River, down to Tulear and back up towards Tana taking in Isalo and Ranomafana PN as well as PN Andasibe-Mantadia. Is it feasable to do this circuit in a month, and without flying? I've seen mentioned in a couple of guides that you can get a boat from Morondava to Tulear - has anyone done this?
Any tips would be greatly appreciated!
Does anyone know if it's possible to trek in any of the national parks without a guide? From what I've read it doesn't seem likely. If not is there any areas you can recommend for some three to four day hikes away from main towns and basically out in the countryside.
Also (there's always a follow up) i'm going at the beginning of december and have been told that for the south will have the warmest and least likely to rain weather. Would you agree?

my family is planing on going to Madagascar Nosy Be in April approx. 1st-15th. We are planing on going with my 14 years old brother. And I was hoping you could help me with some questions. So here we go: How is the weather in Nosy Be this time of year? Is it okay for relaxing on the beach and diving? Is it okay to travel to Madagascar with a teenager?
