Hi

Planing Madagascar in April

I do have latest LP guide book :) but it was printed almost 3 yrs back :(

Is it good to use LP madagascar for backpacking ?

Is April appropriate period to travel ? I intend to visit central - southern - western areas of this unique country.

Should I book vehicle with driver cum guide only ?

All suggestions are welcome

Thanx ☺

We are looking at arranging a trip to Madagascar this autumn.

We would like to go to Andasibe and Berenty. We would then like to go across to Tulear and travel up RN7 (via Isalo, Ramafona and Antsirabe) back to Tana.

Can anyone advise how we might arrange this. We wish to avoid flying if possible (due to the cost). Is it possible to go in a loop by road down the west, across the bottom and up the east side?

Also - where is it best to visit the beach for a few days - near Fort Dauphin, or at…

Hi there,

I am planning to tour Madagascar for 20 days soon. I will be having return flights.

Is it still possible to get VoA - single entry at antananarivo Int'l airport ?

If yes then what docs are reqd and how much charge ?

I am having Indian ordinary passport and as per IATA I can get VoA for US $ 70 (140,000 MG Ariary).

But i would like to know from recent experienced travellers.

Thanx ☺

Hello everyone,

Me and my girlfriend will probably go to Madagascar in september or october. As I read more and more about the country, I realise that 3 weeks is not exactly enough to see everything that the country offers. We will travel independently, long distances we will probably fly ( we will travel on a budget but it doesn't have to come as cheap as possible ).

Our focus will be wildlife ( Lemurs to be exactly ). Chameleons or birds ( or insects ) would be great, but it's not that we…

Hello
Does anyone know if the Mada Smiles bus is running along RN7 from Tana to Toliara? I understand that it is sort of a 'hop on/hop off' service. Is that right?

I am thinking of travelling to Madagascar from the 22nd Apri - 15th May - I just posted a question about solo travel there. http://www.lonelyplanet.com/thorntree/thread.jspa?threadID=2019722&messageID=18133044#18133044

However, after more research I realise that these dates are right in the middle of the French spring holidays - for two of the three regions at least. This doesn't appear to be a problem with flights as air Kenya flies from London for around 700 pounds, but I am a little…

I've got 3-4 weeks in April/May to travel in, and have narrowed down my options to Central America (Guatemala, Belize, Honduras) or Madagascar.

I'm traveling solo, and currently CA is ahead as I've heard that Madagascar can be a bit thin on the ground in terms of fellow travellers, particularly if my French is reasonably basic. Central America seems like a better destination for meeting people as I travel round, therefore.

However, I'd be interested in people's views on this? Is what I've…
