We visited this park in mid November. The visit itself was fine although by no means the best park we visited. We stayed in bungalow #2 and during our night walk we were burgled and lost a lot of stuff. The park staff and Director responded very well and looked after us, helped with making a report to the police etc. However, we saw no security near the bungalows, the lock was very weak and the perfect timing of the raid made us think that they had inside info.

At the time, we discussed all…

Hi guys, I am new here and looking for some advice with my Madagascar itinerary.

Firsty, some info, I am 28 and will be travelling with my mother who, whilst fit for her age, is in her early fifties. So this a big consideration to my itinerary.

Firstly, we were looking at booking an organised tour with explore.co.uk from Tana to Tulear. However I am having second thoughts about this as it seems like a lot of driving and not so much wildlife (which is my primary reason for visiting Madagascar).

Hello. I am planning a trip to Madagascar in mid-January for one month, I know weather-wise this is not the best time to visit so just a few questions specific to my itinerary to be sure it is still worth going.

From what I have heard, the RN7 is completely paved and no problem to visit during the rainy season. However, I am most interested in doing some walking in the parks and especially seeing some wildlife - will the parks be too muddy and wet and miserable to do any walking? And is it…

Hello All!

I am planning to visit Madagascar end of March/beginning April. I've heard a lot about food in Madagascar, and I'm a huge fan of learning different dishes around the world. Does anyone here know of any places where I could learn to cook a few local dishes? Could be a formal class, or an informal setting in someone's house...someone who owns a restaurant and wouldn't mind sparing a couple hours outside its normal hours to teach someone a few dishes?

Thanks!

Joseph

Airport shuttle

Just a quick heads up on the ADEMA shuttle to and from Tana's airport - only 10,000 Ar and very efficient. Unfortunately I don't have a number for them but got onto them through my hotel in Tana. At a 1/4 of the taxi price its not bad value!
Cheers
Jo

Hi there

Can anyone recommend a driver who will be able to drive 4 people south from Antananarivo and then back again over 9 days? We thought we had organised a driver, Hasina (recommended by people on this forum), but we have not heard from him for over 6 weeks and are worried that we will not hear from him by the time we want to leave on the 3rd January.

hello,

I made a tour on the southern part of madagascar 7 years ago with Desire Travel Tours, and I would like to go back in May 2012 to discover north there, that is to say by the tracks at the beginning of Antananarivo . I am looking for travelling companions if that interests you. I will be there for 3 weeks.
Here the circuit: http://desire-travel.netii.net/voyage-nosy_be-madagascar_en.html

This is the third highest peak in Madagascar and the ascent is supposed to be easy as it is possible to drive to within a two hour walk of the top. However I was not able to find a guide in either 2010 or 2011 and am unsure why. I tried in both Ambatolampy and Antsirabe. Any advice please? I am not keen on walking in the reserve which is apparently mostly degraded forest.

Thanks Rory
