some questions

A couple of fairly pedestrian questions if I may:

1) Mosquito nets. Should we carry our own? Are most hotels equipped with ceiling hooks for attachment? Has anyone used the "travel tent" ? these are free standing with fibreglass poles, and sit on top of the bed

2) Bedbugs. I know these are becoming a problem everywhere. Are they especially problematic in Madagascar, or will the usual recommended anti bedbug methods be enough.

Btw, we will be travelling in December/January.

Thanks

Hello
We are planning our trip to Madagascar and aim to visit different national parks (Ranomafana, d’Angdringitra and Isalo) individually.
We plan 2-4 day trips in these national parks. Does anybody know if the national park guides can organize tents or if we should take our own tent with us?
What temperature/ climate do we have to expect end of May/early June in these regions?
Thanks a lot for your posts.

Dear travellers,

From vague details on other fora, both AirMad and Corsair have (probably) sold discounted tickets in the northern winter period in previous years, at around 800 EUR return from Paris. Those discounts could come again this year but not yet available in April. Alternative would be booking now at around 1100. Could anyone confirm these discounts in previous years or elaborate on companies' policies (I've read the post on the different contingents of tickets being released, but am…

As I mentioned in my last post, I'll be to Madagascar end of April for 5 weeks.

I'd really like to see Masoala NP.
Most posts here suggest to fly in to Maroansetra for Masoala.
Is this really the only option?
I did not book any domestic flights so far because I'm not in a hurry and really
want to do some adventurous trekking.
The Bradt guide mentions some trekking possibilities in this area but does not go into detail.
It mentions the road from Soanierana-Ivongo to the north as 'just passable'.

I'll be to Mada end of April for 5 weeks.
Because of planning to camp a few times I'm thinking of bringing a small camping stove. I do own a stove for Denatured Alcohol.
Will Denatured Alcohol be available all over Mada?
Of course very high percentage drinking alcohol would also work if it's pure and clean.
Could anybody confirm availability of ether of those?

THX

Dear posters,

We (2) land in Antananarivo in the morning and we are aiming to get on the ride and reach Ranomafana NP in a day of road travel.
Is it feasible to do this avoiding scales such as Fianarantsoa (all the hotels there are sending us crazy ridiculous prices).

Even better if it could be done directly from Ivato airport so that no need to step into Tana city.

Are there any "semi-public" transport options meaning a shared car-with-driver that can reduce the costs.

Else is it feasible by…

I'm planning my staying in Madagascar for 3 weeks, next August
can you help me suggesting some reliable guide/s or travel agency ?
Please take note that I am not used to travelling with guides or tours
I've already read the LP and Bradt guides , but I still have some questions about destinations , weather, and most of all the transports .
thanks

Hi everyone,

Two friends of mine and myself are planning a trip to Madagascar this April. One of my colleagues advised to rent a boat for a south-north islands tour instead of traditional inland car-rental. The first coming quotes are rather pricy, However the idea of a boat cuise sounds fascinating. We thought about sharing a boat adventure with other travellers - maybe a couple or three people group? Our plan is to start from Nose Be on 22nd April and return to the same port on 26th, 5 days…

I signed up a full day hiking with a tour company , Tsangatsanga Maison des Guides, recommended by LP. They have an official price list. A full day hiking costs AR 160,000. It was my first sightseeing in the country and so I was unfamiliar with the normal price here. I went hiking alone with this guide called Tina (not sure of the spelling). After a while he tried to put his hand around my shoulder. I showed face of disgust. Then he tried to get hold of my hands few times since I kept avoiding…

Hello!

Could anyone tell me how the situation looks like in Madasgascar taking into account that there was a coup d´etat in 2009 and a cyclone this February? Me and my family are planning to spend two weeks there on our way to Mauritius in August. Is it safe?

Thanks
