Hi everyone,

Does anyone have any info/experiences about snorkeling in Madagascar in Jan/Feb?

Where is the best coral/marine life etc.

Thank you

Hi.
I just got back from Madagascar. I there was very good snorkeling on Nosy Sakatia and Nosy Tanikely off Nosy Be. Turtles, corals and fish in abundance, and the rental gear is good. However Jan/Feb is rainy season, and I don't know how you travel. Nosy be is easy to get to, though.

Apparently there is good snorkeling in Belo sur mer South of Morondava, but it's alot more hassle to travel there (no plane, lousy dirt roads and bush taxis).

Enjoy

Hi,
during rainy season you will have a problem to reach some places. Also, you have to know that only a few places have diving facilities - with snorkelling there is no so many problems.
You have got 3 options during rainy season for real diving:
1. Nosy Be area (there is number of atols around, Nosy Tanikely is the best). Available by plain from Tana.
2. Ifaty (north from Tulear). Avilable by car or flight to Tulear and after car.
3. Saint Marie island - avilable by car and after ferry or directly by plain.
Good luck

Thanks for the info madaspirifer,
Have you snorkeled in Ifaty? If you have how was it? Also is it possible to get to Ifaty in this season in a non 4 wheel drive car?
Thank you

Snorking there is nice, you should take a pirogue (some small canoe) with native fishermans - they will take you to the best places.
During rainy season you can go easly to Toliara and after it depends how rain was heavy. You can alwas hire 4x4 in Tulear for short time.
Good luck!
