Sending Credit Card details??

Hi all

Heading to Madagascar in November and after e-mail discussions with a few guides, we've agreed a program with Andry of the MTG website. Just wanted to post a quick query in case there were any concerns out there - but more specifically, though the website says we can transfer money bank to bank, he's just requested that we send (full) credit card details (inc the security code but texting that separately from the rest of the info) to pay the deposit. We've mailed back saying we'd rather stick with bank transfer but just wanted to see if card details have been asked of others and, if so, whether it ended ok (or ended in tears!). Clearly it's not something we'd give out under normal circumstances.

You would be safer paying by credit card in that from the UK you have Section 75 protection (look it up) rather than by bank transfer when you have no protection whatsoever. In any case there are plenty of people in Madagascar prepared to accept one half payment on the first day and on signing the contract which is the usualy arrangment. Also a "Tour company" might be one guy and a website who subcontracts to his friends.

We travelled with Andry from MTG some weeks ago on a 3 week tour through the country. The guy and his tour company are perfectly trustworthy, no doubt about that.
Having said that, we paid the initial deposit by bank transfer and paid the remainder in cash upon arrival.
If you are worried about sending your cc details in general, then this is certainly an option. If you are worried about sending your cc details to MTG, don't be.

Thanks all for the comments and pointers. Wasn't sure where we stood on credit card S75 if we'd handed over all the details (inc security code) so we made contact and agreed to use bank transfer - which worked fine and we've now had confirmation of local flight reservations etc so confident raft all's gonna be ok.

Thanks Philip S above for the reassure re Andry too. We've had a lot more comms with him since my first post and now looking fwd to an exciting trip.
