I am thinking to travel the whole Madagascar in dry season, for maximum of one month.
Since it is a big country I may fly if it is the best choice, but I also want to travel overland, to enjoy unique landscapes.

How are the road in Madagascar in dry season (maybe in October)?
Self drive tour is possible? I am not expert in mechanics but enjoyed self drive tour in Namibia.
If self drive is difficult, is it possible to visit major tourist spots by taxi blousse alone?

Especially the information on the road other than 'southern cross street' (e.g. Tuliara to Berenty, Antananarivo to Diego Suarez) is needed.

Awaiting for your kind advices!

Good bad and very bad indeed. Usually people hire a 4 x 4 and driver. As regards taxi brousse it depends on where but it will take a long time and be uncomfortable/very interesting.

Thanks roryg,
I'll be traveling solo, so hiring a 4 x 4 with driver all thru my 1 month trip is too costly...
I guess your words 'uncomfortable/very interesting' hold truth. Kindly let me know if there is a recommended route to experience taxi brousse.

Finding a drive-yourself car hire firm will in itself pose a difficulty. You are far better to take a combination of flights, car with driver, and taxi brousse. Some of the regular routes can be done easily by tb. Tana to Fianarantsoa, take a break there, maybe a side trip to Ranomafana from there, then Fianar to Tulear, as one example. Have a look at the other post here about more luxury mini buses that also do certain routes.
