Hello,

In October my boyfriend and I travelled to Madagascar for 2 weeks with Rija Tours. We were happy with Rija since the first time we contacted him. He replied to our emails straight away, was helpful and flexible when we were preparing our trip.

We decided to do the East coast part of Madagascar - Tana – Andasibe – Manambato - Pangalanes canal – Akanin’ny Nofy-Mahambo – Sainte Marie – Nosy Nato. Rija booked for us the internal flight between Saint Marie and Tana, boat transfers and all hotels which we were really happy with.

Our guide Jean – Claude was waiting for us at the airport in Tana even if we landed two hours before our scheduled arrival. He was an perfect guide, very friendly and helpful and his English was excellent.

In overall our trip was well organized, we didn’t need to worry about anything at all and just could enjoy our stay in this lovely country. I hope that we will be able to come back in few years and will let Rija organize our trip again. I can highly recommend Rija tours and I am happy to give any more information if anyone needed.

Alena

How much did it cost? Which hotels did you stay in and how much did they cost? How far did you travel along the canal and in what sort of boat and how much did that cost? Did you find two weeks long enough?

Hello,
the hotels we stayed in were - Antananarivo - Hotel Shanghai, Andasibe -Hotel Feon’ny Ala, Akanin’ny Nofy - - Hotel Palmarium, Mahambo - Hotel La Pirogue, Nosy Nato - Hotel Maningory. I cant tell you the price for each hotel as we paid one price to Rija tours and everyting was included. But you can check prices on their website. Same was with the boats tickets - they were included in the price of whole trip. We travel from Manambato to Akanin'ny Nofy which was about 1 hour long journey, stayed 2 nights in Palmarium hotel and then went on the canal to Toamasina which was 2.5 hours journey. The boat was a small motor boat. If you want to know the price of the whole trip I recomend to look at Rija Tours website or contact Rija my email. The price might change with what activietes you want to do. And with the time, it is difficult. We've definitely seen a lot during the 2 weeks but as allways I wish to have little bit more time.

Thanks Zelca, I'm glad you had a good experience and were able to get a lot done in a short time. It is always useful for travellers like myself who have much more time to know detail about what hotels cost and what they are like. Also I have been thinking of a boat trip and what you write is helpful. Regards Rory

Totally second this, myself and a friend have just come back from 2 weeks in Madagascar with Rija Tours and they were brilliant! Right from the start Rija was incredibly helpful and efficient, suggesting itineraries and advising on what was best for us to do (and this is before we had agreed to book with him). He was always super fast at responding which was really refreshing, and clearly cared about finding the right itinerary that suited us. We needed some internal flights as part of our trip, and there were only a few seats left so Rija went ahead and booked the seats for us immediately, even though we hadn't paid him for them yet, which I was so impressed by.

Our tour guide was Angelo who is an absolute gem! Such a lovely, genuine guy and so attentive, he would always check our hotel rooms for us to make sure they were acceptable, recommend restaurants, suggest food to try and was very knowledgeable about the flora and fauna. Nothing was too much trouble - I can't complement him enough. He also carries his guitar around with him and will play you Malagasy songs...especially when encouraged by a bit of rum!
