Hi to everyone!!

I am planning to travel to Madagascar from 24/6 to 14/7 this year. I read everything here, i both Bradt guide book (very good) but i have so many problems about how to travel. You see in my countrie Madagascar is not a touristic destination so noone knows something to help me...only if i want to go with a group. And i don't want!

So...here is the plan like i have thought it. Do you thik in works?

24/6/2011 Paris - Antananarivo Air Madagascar be there at 3:00 in the morning
25/6/2011 Tanarivo - Tulear By plane to win time (7:00 - 08:05)
26/6/2011 Tulear - Isalo
27/6/2011 Isalo
28/6/2011 Isalo
29/6/2011 Isalo - Fianaratsoa - RANOMAFA
30/6/2011 RANOMAFA
1/7/2011 RANOMAFA - Fianaratsoa
2/7/2011 Fianaratsoa - Morondava
3/7/2011 Morondava - Tsingy de bemaraha
4/7/2011 Tsingy de Bemaraha
5/7/2011 Tsingy de bemaraha - Morondava
6/7/2011 Morondava - Tana By plane to win time (09:55 - 10:55)
7/7/2011 Tana - Ile saint marie By plane to win time (11:10 - 12:05)
8/7/2011 Ile saint marie
9/7/2011 Ile saint marie
10/7/2011 Ile saint marie
11/7/2011 Ile saint marie
12/7/2011 Ile saint marie - Toamasina - Antananarivo (07:50 - 08:20) By plane to win time
From Toamasina go by car back to antananarivo to see the area. If it is possible to do it in one day. and maybe even if
we don't take the plane to Toamasina...maybe a boat...but how long is the trip?
13/7/2011 Antananarivo
14/7/2011 Back Home

Questions:

1)Fianaratsoa - Morandaba is possible by car in one day?
2) do you think we can change something for a better trip? maybe can change the order of places so that take less flights.
3) We don't want to rent a car and drive alone. But because of the flights... is it possible to have a car with driver for exemple from tulear until Morondava and then leave him there and go alone by plane back? on ile saint Marie we can go alone and then we just want a car to go back from toamasina to Tana. Do you think it will be easy to find a car with a driver in Toamasina? (prefer car than bus to stop for pictures )
4) finally...do i miss something important from the trip?is ok time we have for any place? (for ile saint marie we need all these days for relaxing)

If someone can help me it would be great. And if someone has any idea how we can arrange with a car with driver it would be better than great.

Thank you all!

Mada biggest problem is the lack of infrastructure. For a traveller it means, transport from one palce to another is a p..in..d..a..
I would restric myself to 1 destination within 5 days.
If you rent a car with driver, its possible from Tana, not Tulear - but for one-way you have to pay him the return trip. All that not cheap -- calculate 60..80 EU/day
Using Taxi-brousse is your option. But it means roughing out.
Do Tana-Tulear...stay there and in Ifaty for 5 days. Fly back to Tana, transfer to Morondava..stay again 5 days and explore the area. If you still then in the mood to travel, go back to Tana and fly to IleSt Marie as you planned. But perhaps during your trip you may decide otherwise -- remain flexible.

Hello,
You have 19 days in Madagascar and you are right to plan visit 2 different places (dry and wet area)
The southern tour has great wildlife tour with culture and rich for the landscape scenery so you have good option to choose it but anyway you fly down to Toliara so why not heading down to Toliara by car then fly from there to Morondava and I agree with …….it’s not easy to find good car for hiring from Toliara except 4x4 but I think you don’t need to hire on national road 7 it’s good road. You have 7 days in your plan from Antananarivo before you drive to Morondava so drive step by step to Toliara on 7 days; visit Ranomafana Park, Anja reserve, Isalo. From Toliara you fly to Morondava I think they have daily flight schedule on this date.
What do you think about it?
24/6/2011Paris-Antananarivo Air Madagascar be there at 3:00 in the morning, you could arrange city tour to visit Queen’s Place and Tsimbazaza park.
25/6/2011 Tana- Antsirabe.
26/6/2011 Antsirabe-Ambositra-Ranomafana
27/6/2011 Ranomafana
28/6/2011 Ranomafana-Ambalavao-Isalo
29-30/6/2011 Isalo
1/7/2011 Isalo –Toliara
2/7/2011Toliara-Morondava by flight

About your domestic flight, normally you will get discount on internal flight if you will fly with Air Madagascar from Paris so you have to check it!!!!!!!
About Tsingy of Bemaraha, have you idea about the price but this tour is too expensive for one person because you have to hire 4WD, the road is very bad even in dry season so I don’t know if you can afford it or not? But if you can do it you have good plan.
3/7/2011 Morondava – Tsingy of Bemaraha
4/7/2011 Tsingy of Bemaraha visit Manambolo gorge by canoe then big tsingy.
5/7/2011 Tsingy of Bemaraha –Morondava.
6/7/2011 Morondava-Tana by plane
7/7/2011Tana-St Marie by plane too.
About St Marie if you have 3 days there I think it’s enough, it’s a best place for the humpback whales and good place for relaxing, to practice your water activities as diving , snorkeling,……
From here why not take a boat to across the Indian Ocean to join Sonierana Ivongo then drive from there to visit Ivoloina Park then pass to Toamasina and then drive back to Tana , pay your visit at Andasibe park where you will find the largest lemur called “Indri Indri” and others species, reptiles, birds,….The boat trip from St Marie to Sonierana Ivongo take 1 hour.
11/7/2011 St Marie –Sonierana Ivongo -Toamasina

12/7/2011 Toamasina-Andasibe.
13/7/2011 Visit the park in the morning then drive back to Tana.
14/7/2011 back home.
I don’t know my tour program is correct for you or not but let see.
Good luck!!!!
Anne

I agree with Anneholiday. Driving from Tana to Antsirabe to Ranomafana to Isalo is spectacular.

Morondava and the Tsingy would be spectacular, but it isa bit pricey and includes a lot of bumpy roads!

St Marie (and Ile Aux Nattes) is wonderful if you like the island paradise thing. It saounds like you might be there before the whale migration is in full swing, but still well worth going there.
Good Luck!
