Hi there, my husband is flying out to Madagascar tomorrow for a week's business trip. He only found out he was going a couple of days ago so he's had very little time for any research. He doesn't know how much free time he will have but are there any interesting sights in and around Antananarivo? Any other tips?
Thanks for your help.

Andasibe-Mantadia National Park is about 140 km east of the capital and easy to get to. A visit there will be rewarding in terms of wildlife seen.

In Tana itself, a wander around the market in Analakely at one end of the Avenue de l'Indépendence gives a feel for the atmosphere of the place. The walk up to the Rova, the former royal palace is interesting - some old colonial buildings and views over the city - though the building itself doesn't have much to offer since the destructive fire.

The zoo at Tsimbazaza is possibly worth a visit, although the way in which the animals are kept doesn't match modern (western) standards and can be offputting. It's a pleasant park, popular with local people.

His business contacts there would normally have suggestions for him.

I hope that this information is not too late to be useful. The lemur zoo, twenty-two km west of Tana, was highly recommended to me and Bradt's guide speaks highly of it. I didn't have time to visit it myself, but you might inquire about it.

Thanks Rangoon but he's coming home tonight! He seems to have had a good trip though so he must have found plenty of stuff to do. Cheers.
