HI all, I am traveling with my husband and 2 small children. We are doing something I NEVER thought I would do... cruise... we have one day in Fort Dauphin and the idea of an organized excursion is just not for us. Any thoughts on how to experience a drop of Madagascar in one day?
Thank you very very much!

Hi, I'm an Australian living in Fort Dauphin.

I am guessing you are on the cruise ship arriving in December? Much of Fort Dauphin is waiting for you... lol... it is a very big money spinner for a couple of local companies when the ships come in... Mainly the biggest operator is Nahampoana Reserve which tends to get about 80% of the business, which is reasonable, because most people getting off the ships tend to want to see lemurs and they are really the only place you can see lemurs within a short distance from town (+-7km).

Is there anything in particular that you want to do? I mean, I don't want to recommend restaurants if all you want to do is lay on the beach. Let me know what you would like to experience and I will help you with some ideas :)

Sorry I can't work with that... Is there anything that is a must see? Lemurs? A park? Beach? Do you want to go somewhere for lunch? A walking tour of town? A driving tour of town? Any specific interests? History? Culture? Wildlife? A drive around town and then lunch somewhere near the ocean? Most important is how much time will you have available?
