Hi all,

This might sound like a dumb question but given that hotels/drivers etc always seem to quote prices in euros, sometimes with the ariary equivalent, sometimes without, do people actually expect payment in euros or in ariary on the ground?

Thanks!

Was there last week and no taxi driver quoted me in Euros ! All prices are in ariary though people still talk in FMG ! You just have to divide FMG / 5 to get ariary price. You have to be specific sometimes when dealing with people like when i wanted to recharge (speed) my credit on Airtel I asked for 5000 ariary and the seller understood 5000 FMG and recharged only 1000 AR ! No big problem for this case but food for thought !

Hi,
Our tour guide quoted in Euros and wanted to be paid in Euros, but when we lost the Euros - left them on the plane! he happily accepted Ariary. All our shopping, guides, hotels and meals were paid with Ariary. All the prices we saw were in Ariary. In the main cities and towns there are ATMs where you can withdraw a maximum of 200 000 A per transaction.

Most prices in Ariary but driver was happy to accept Euro which he said he would change or Ariary my choice. In remote areas definitely Ariary.

I could get 400,000 out of the ATMs.
