Hello,

We are planning to take the train to Manakara. From there we want to go to Fort Dauphin.
We know there is a flight once a week but that would probably be a bit of a gamble...
I read in LP that there is no public transport all the way down to FD.

What would our best bet be? Go all the way back to Tana and fly to FD or does anyone have another idea?

One possibility is to take a taxi from Fianar to Tulear ( it take a few hours to reach there since it's on the RN7 road ). From Tulear you can take a flight to Fort-Dauphin.

..unfortunately, you will have to do the train twice (Fianar-Manakara ). I guess it is better than the road going along the east coast down to Fort-Dauphin. I guess some locals do it but it may be a nightmare.

Yes, there is defintively no public transportation between Manakara to Ft Duaphin as there is no road from Vangaindrano. It would be doable with madagascan patience a lot of walking and waiting for boats to cross lakes and so on, though.
