We're thinking of going to the island by boat, and would be interested in hearing from anyone who has done it...particularly from the point of view of safety. How long is the journey?

Also, any tips or comments on the island would be great!

My driver in 2010 suggested strongly that I did not take the boat as it was dangerous. There was a serious accident in 2011. The Bradt Guide 11th edition 2014 gives detail of the best ferries and other advice on the island. I still have not been and am told it is very beautiful.

I think we'll tale the boat, as some companies look to be reasonably reliable, and we hear it is only 1 hour, so if the weather is clear that's not too long to be on a boat!
