Hi peeps,

We're travelling to Mada for three weeks in Sep-Oct. I'm desperately trying to semi-organize our route, but it has come to my attention that Air Mad ONLY flies between Maroantsetra and Sambava on Thursdays. I find no other connections no matter what site I check. Unfortunately, Thursday does not match our itinerary super well (what can you do with only three weeks).

Can this really be true? I know Mad Air is shifty, but was convinced that this was a busier route taking lack of other transportation options into consideration. Does anyone have experience with this route in particular?

If we had the time, we'd treck to Cap Est...

Any help is much appreciated!

Best,

Sara

... And what about flying from Maroantsetra to Diego-Suarez? According to my flight information, the only option is with a stopover in Tana which takes 22 hrs in total!

Any experiences on this?

Hi Sara

Again 2007... long time ago!
But YES there are very few flights in and out of Maroantsetra. We waited around town for days to get out after our stay in the NP. Only other option is to be in the back of a pick up truck for at least 60 hours down to Tamatave. It's not a long distance but it feels VERY long due to the conditions of the road.

At that time we flew Diego-Suarez - Sambava - Maroantsetra.
and out: Maroantsetra - Tamatave - Ile Sante Marie

Note:
If you book international tickets with Air Mad you get a good discount on all domestic flights afterwards!
This should also apply if you like us only fly Air Mad from Mauritius. Contact an Air Mad office. You will not get discounts on tickets booked online.

Thanks for your fast reply, Anne Marie. I wrote you a personal message, maybe that's easier:) We will not be flying in with Air Mad and I think we'll simply buy our domestic flights from home - afterall, the Maroantsetra-Sambava is only 90€ and even if we choose not to use it, it's not that much money to lose. Better safe than sorry, I reckon! I'm contemplating flying from Tama to Ile S. M as well to avoid the ferry hassle, but not sure if the bus and ferry ride is actually "worth" experiencing!
