I'm also thinking that we might drop off one leg and go to Ile St Marie via Andasibe instead of Nosy Be, and that way only have the flights to Fort Dauphin and back, but that discount would make a difference.

I am assuming you mean by road to the coast from Andasibe and then by boat to ISM? I can't advise on the transport to Isle St Marie by boat, I have only ever flown to get there. Haja the Destination Expert for Madagascar on this site might be able to advise, or, put another thread up asking about it...

Yes, you're right, my (vague) plan is to go by land to Andasibe and then on to Ile Sainte Marie by land and boat, if that is practical. I'm always a little cautious with boats around Africa after a few trips where safety didn't seem to be a priority!

I promised I would return to let you know about the flight discounts. Indeed I did get my discount after flying in to Mada from Jo-burg so that might be worth taking into consideration. The internal flights are really pricey so the discount could make a big difference if you are going to take several.
