Can anyone suggest a budget hotel/hostel in Tana where I'm likely to meet other travelers?
I'll be traveling solo in Madagascar during Nov. and Dec. If any other solo travelers want to meet up, let me know!

Lambert Hotel is more like a hostel. It's in Ambondrona (upstairs from Analakely). You will probably
meet other backpackers there. Rate was less than 10E. There is a few even nicer (but not hostels)
places in the surounding - like Chez Francis (34k MGA)

I will go to Tana 2.11. and stay until 5.12. Iam also travelling alone and wouldnt mind joining someone. I made reservation for a romm at the www.chez-aina.com
thats a small guesthouse in the city with good rooms and very friendly staff.

Not sure where to meet other travelers but I can help you with budget hotels. The cheapest hotel in Tana is Hotel Numero 1 which lies about 150 meters from the villa vanille. It is 15000 Ar per night: Thats with communal bathrooms and currently the hot water is broken there. Just down the hill from numero 1 is the Hotel Zenith which is 30000Ar per night. Its cleaner and you get your own bathroom.
You could also try Hotel St. Pierre behind the Avenue. That Ive never stayed there but I know that other travelers stay there. They also have a restaurant. The price per night is 40000 Ar. Good luck.

I recently went to Tana Jacaranda and highly recommend it. The staff can speak English (not that usual) and there is a lovely communal dining area with a balcony. I was travelling alone and met quite a few other backpackers here and we arranged to travel together for parts of my trip.
