Car & Drive hire for a day trip from Tana to Antsirabe - $$?

Hi everyone!

I have a short stopover in Madagascar, which I've managed to stretch to 3 days. On one of those days I'd like to get out of Tana and at least see a different city, so I chose to go see Antsirabe.

Would it be sensible to choose this place for a little day trip? Is it doable, time-wise? Does anyone know how much a car & driver cost? The reason I prefer this as opposed to a taxi-brousse is because I'll be sharing it with a travelling partner, and also because I'd like to stop at a specific restaurant on the way in Behenjy. It will also mean that we can stay as long as we like in Antsirabe, instead of worrying about missing the last taxi-brousse back to Tana.

Or does anyone know if this is at all doable with public transport? I don't fancy the idea of spending a night in Antsirabe and carrying enough stuff for an overnighter and dealing with another hotel and stuff.

I just came through Berenjy this afternoon with a car and driver from Asisten Travel. I've been very impressed with their professionalism and general approach, and my driver really knew his route and all the local stops. I'm not a foie gras fan, so didn't stop at that particular resto, but it would be very easy to do so. I liked Antsirabe, and it's a beautiful area. You could do the trip by taxi brousse but you're talking about a full day to Antsirabe by the time you've done everything you have to do with tb travel. If you were just transferring there, then no problem, but the Berenjy stop rules that out. Target price for a car and driver is around €100/day, but this will depend on how far you travel.

If you do stay in Antsirabe - the best places are Couleur Café, Chambres des Voyageurs and Soa Guest House. Or if you're counting the ariary, then Chez Billy is great.

Do you know anything about taking a taxi-brousse just to Berenjy, like how much it costs?

Also, how much does a taxi-brousse cost to Antsirabe?
