Madagascar is one of beautiful country in Africa and they are rich about the wildlife, cultures, stories, beach resort and so on….but don’t forget this island is wide and about 3weeks you could explore 2 different tour.
August is the best time to visit Madagascar so I want to suggest you heading down to the south step by step start from Antananarivo drive to Antsirabe then continue to Ambositra , visit Zafimaniry village then drive to Fianarantsoa where you will take train down to the east coast (Manakara ) rise up by car to Ranomafana, visit the park and then extend your tour to Isalo, visit the park don’t skip off Anja reserve ( the reserve between Ambalavao and Isalo), from Isalo you can drive to Toliara then continue by boat to Anakao beach where you could practice your water activities then fly back to Antananarivo, drive eastward to Andasibe where you will find the largest lemur named “Indri Indri” and others species, reptiles, birds ,…. Then continue to St Marie island where is a really nature’s sanctuary, with his primitive forest, his many floral species, his waterfall, his marvelous submarine background, and his humpback whales from June to September.
Madagascar is a relatively inexpensive destination, the mid range hotel cost between Euro 20 -25 and luxury accommodation will varied between Euro 60 to 100, a main course meal would cost approximately €5, a glass of house wine would be € 2 and beer would cost around € 2 for a large bottle.
About the transportation I want to suggest you to hire car with driver.
The mostly people in Madagascar speak French but if you will have English speaking guide, I think it will be fine.
Good luck!!!!

I would endorse the Fianarantso to Manakara train trip - just superb - as well as the Anja Reserve which I found to be the best place to see lemurs up close. It is also a good way to directly support a local community. Ranomafana, while a nice forest walk, does not always provide good viewing of lemurs, especially when it is wet and the animals are hiding high up in the branches.

I found local buses to be very clean, effficient and not over-crowded (one person per seat which is quite a change from many other Africna countries).
