How common is it to hire a car or 4x4 in Kenya? I've looked and it seems to be possible but not necessarily usual. If so roughly how much. Any advice and information appreciated. I'm used to hiring a 4x4 in Madagascar and it is my preferred means of getting around.

Hi all,

I will be travellling solo hiking up Kilimanjaro in February 2016 and I am looking for people, groups whom I could join, team up to cut the costs.

I am arriving to Nairobi on 5th Feb and will be heading towards the mountain directly after arrival therefore I could start the climb on same or next day.

Route I would very much like to take is Machame.

I will start contacting the companies in coming month(s) after I do the painstaking task of filtering through them all online.

Perhaps…

Hi, we are planning self driven safari in Kenya/Tanzania. I was looking for some inspiration on few travel agencies websites. In none of them, I found direct connection from Maasai to Serengeti. Even, in case, they are in the same tour, agency would drive people from Maasai to Serengeti through Arusha? Is there any issue of crossing border between KENYA/TANZANIA on this route?
Anyone could help assess driving times? Maasai to Serengeti? Serengeti to Ngorongoro?
Thanks
Vilo

can any one please tell me any places to stay in Downtown Nairobi for no more than Ksh1000=$10 a night.
it looks like most of the Backpacker places are out of downtown and cost more than Ksh1000=$10 a night.
it also looks like the Nairobi youth hostel has closed down.
I will be getting the bus 34 from the Nairobi airport to downtown for Ksh 50.
so I need a place near to where the 34 bus stops.
then after a few days in Nairobi I will get the 10 seat Mololine Prestige shuttle to Nakuru from River road.

Hello,

some weeks ago, I went to Masai Mara and climbed the Mount Kenya (I travelled for six days at Mount Kenya, and it was a great experience, especially the different kinds of vegetation).
I enjoyed it very much and that was also due to the travel organisation who organised it for me, as I was travelling alone in Kenya.
Normally I do not recommend travel organisations on the thorn tree travel forum, but as prices were very competitive and the organisation was very good, it could be useful for…

My boyfriend and I just returned from an amazing safari experience in Kenya. We spent 5 nights/6days going to Masai Mara, Lake Nakuru and Amboseli - truly amazing... We booked our safari with Safe Ride Safaris and I would highly recommend them to anyone. The price was reasonable, the experience was amazing and our driver/guide, Teddy was wonderful. Just wanted to put that information out there - great experience!

Hi,

I am travelling to Voi in Kenya, and was wondering if anybody had tried to catch the Mombasa to Nairobi train from this intermediate stop? If so, how did you go about buying the ticket, and what was the station like to wait around in late at night (I am assuming that the train will be very late, so this is quite important for us!).

Thanks!
