Hi everyone, I 'll be in Kenya and Tanzania in August 2013 for the whole month. from the 2nd of August till the very forst week of September. I 'll be on my own and in a tight budget. I am looking for companion. I 'd also like to know if it is possible ( and safe ) to go by road from Addis Abebda ( Ethopia ) and to enter Kenya. There 's a new flight from Sao Paulo - where I live - to Ethopia, w a good price.( and I may also get the air ticket using miles ) . I also intend to go to Tanzania…
I will arrive at the airport in the morning first week of Feb. If I get myself into the city and start looking for a budget hotel or backpackers what will I find. I've just done a quick search on Expedia and I see a lot of very expensive hotels. There must be some small hotels that don't have on line booking. It would be great if there was a few in the $15 to $30 range. Any recommendations. Thanks.
I'm mainly traveling to Kenya to do work with orphanages and to experience the African culture.
I don't really care for the safaris or animals and want real experiences with the Masaai people or any
other African tribe.
Has anyone stayed with the Masaai people or with any tribes throughout Africa?
I'd love to be able to spend a week with a tribe and really be able to experience their REAL culture and
traditions in depth without tours/tourism groups.

Hi All, looking for some advice. My GF and I are going to be in Kenya/Rwanda for about 6 weeks in Dec/January and like most safari's we'd like to end up on the beach. We've done research and we know about Lamu, Mombassa, Malindi.
Just wondering if anyone has a beach area that they could recommend besides those 3? Just wanting to see what's all out there!

Just to let Kenya travelers know that there has been a track washout - apparently a serious one - at Mtito Andei which is about halfway between Nairobi and Mombasa. The Monday night train to Mombasa has been canceled. I was told the track bed was destroyed in the flooding and may take some time to repair. Call ahead to Rift Valley Railways before planning a train journey.
