Hi

I am interested in travelling via public transport from Nairobi to Lake Turkana and return at the end of July. There is a camel racing weekend in Maralal on 1 August, so I thought it might be fun to include that in the itinerary. I don't have a fixed itinerary or timeframe. It sounds like it might take some 'off the beaten track' travelling, so I thought it might be easier to travel with someone else.

Please let me know if you are interested.

Good morning, just a piece of advice: if you want to be in Maralal during the Camel Race book accommodation in advance otherwise you won't find a place to stay! I stayed twice at Sunbird Guesthouse. Enjoy!

I've tried twice already to respond to this post and it hasn't showed up so hopefully three responses won't all post at once...

Sounds like a great time. My wife and I would be interested to see what you have in mind. We leave Kenya on August 5th.

Hi Layhammer

Thanks for the reply. Sorry about my delay but I have been out of range. I have had a look at the dates and I don't think it will work with you leaving on 5 August. I won't be entering Kenya until 29 July and then there will be the camel races on 1-3 August, which won't give us enough time to get up there and back. Thanks anyhow. Hopefully you get up there.

returntosender - Too bad the schedules are off. If we make it to Lake Turkana and then see you at the races, we will let you know what we discover.

Hi return to sender and layhammer,

Also, if you need any information on travelling to Lodwar / Lake Turkana the posts on the new Bunch of Backpackers website may be useful!

Return to Sender -

Just made some phone calls and it appears the date for the camel derby will actually start August 30th with the main events happening over the weekend. Such a bummer - we were really hoping to go. Maybe it will still line up with your travel.

Hi, I was wondering if anyone had any more information on the camel races? I saw that layhammer had obtained some official information regarding the date. If you have any more info, or if you could direct me to someone who does, I'd appreciate any leads. I'm considering heading up this year!
Thanks!
