I am planning the flights for my Kenya trip and my preferred flights would give me 3 hours to get from Wilson to Jomo Kenyatta (mid-day/afternoon on a saturday). Considering what I have read about traffic, 3 hours feels a bit tight. What are your experiences, are 3 hours enough to get my luggage at Wilson, get to Jomo and check-in for my international flight? I would be arriving in Wilson with Safarilink from Lewa, anybody know if the time schedules are reliable or if delays are common?

My alternative would be to fly Lewa-Wilson with AirKenya which would give me a little over 4 hours to get from Wilson to Jomo. I am starting to think that this is the safer option, although I wouldn´t get my preferred departure/arrival time. Would you guys agree?

Both options are cutting it extremely close. If traffic is bad you can easily use 60-90 minutes getting from Wilson to JKIA. When I arrived in country in November we were told that outbound passengers should arrive at least 3 hours prior to international departures.

You might pull it off, but wouldn't be shocked if these options didn't pan out so well for you.

Sorry.

You will be eating into your time to check in at JKIA, by already starting off late..if there are other flights being processed at the same time you could end up in a big queue. My preference is always to be at the airport early. Helps get my bearings and catch my breath. IMHO, you should go with the second option that gives you an hour to get to JKIA.

I think you are cutting it really fine. If it was a very late night/ very early morning flight (say 11.00pm till 05.00am), I'd boldly urge you to go for it.
But weekend traffic in Nairobi can be super unpredictable... all it takes is one novice policeman at the Nyayo Stadium roundabout - and you can kiss your onward flight goodbye.

I have also found the roadworks at the Embakasi Junction (Nov 2013) to be disconcerting on several occasions...

Good Luck!
