Hello all.....I know this has been asked a few times on here before.... but my question is still not answered.
I will be going to Rwanda, Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Malawi - possibly Zambia with a short time in Sth Africa before flying out.
I am considering taking a tent - mainly to save $$ but also coz I just love camping! I have read on here that there isn't alot of camping opportunities in Kenya and Tanzania - and so it not worth taking a tent - but what about the Rwanda, Uganda and Malawi?? Will I save much on accom if I camp - I guess is the main question??? I will be solo while in Rwanda and Uganda.....and I hear that these 2 can be quite expensive compared to the rest of the East Africa....so is worth taking a tent??
If I do camp......apart from locks on the tent, having all $$ and valuables on me - what other security tips should I consider??
Thanks in advance for any advice or tips that you can provide :)
Cheers
Lisa

sorry, no camping in Rwanda! I came across a couple who carried a tent with them, but were never able to use it in Rwanda.

I heard the same about no camping in Rwanda as athmeinrwanda - and dunno about Uganda & Kenya as will go there sometimes next year and planning to do camping as well even do by the sounds of it is not going to be easy.

..never say tomorrow........ is either today or never...

For your trip the tent would be most useful in Malawi. There are plenty of great camping opportunities right on the beach and everywhere else in the country. You certainly can cut your accomodations costs in half there. In Kenya you can also camp in places like Nairobi and Mombasa and saver yourself some cash. There is camping outside of Dar es Salaam and all over southern Tanzania. For such a long trip it is questionable whether it is worth carrying it the whole time when you will use is less than half the time. If starting south and heading north I would say go for it as you could then try and sell it to someone heading south.
