safaris from Nairobi

I went on a 2 night safari to the Mara, from Nairobi, with a company called Glory who were excellent. We stayed in a lodge, but I would expect they offer cheaper packages for camping. Their website is www.glorycarhire.net

since you are on a tight budget, 2-3 days maasai mara camping safaris suites you.but it has to be a joining safari, a minimum of 2 people,this makes it more cheaper.

We live in nairobi and have traveled recently with Let's Go Travel (recommended in LP Kenya books). Have traveled high end to low end with them and found them to be reputable and reliable. Went with their agency to Mara driving (wonderful, and you will be here during wildebeest migration). Also personally highly recommend Lake Naivasha area (hippos, zebras, giraffes,etc)----Fisherman's Camp is a safe, nice place to camp (they also have overpriced bandas), they rent tents, and have a very nice restaurant (if cooking is too much for you). I would think you would find other backpacker types there----we always have when we went as a family. Good luck!

• I stayed at the dorm, on the side of Fishermans Camp, cant recall the name. Had the dorm all to myself for no money.
  - If you like walking or biking, Hells Gate is a parc you can do on foot, taking the matatu from the Camp. The landscape is beautiful, there isnt so much game, not so many visitors either. I saw giraffes, zebras, buffalos, a babboon. In the middle, theres a beautiful gourd. <BR>Since you dont need a car or guide, it`s very cheap

A favorite day trip of mine from Nairobi is down to Magadi. You will need a car but the scenery is spectacular and very varied. Can be hot as hell too!
