My travel partner and I are hoping to explore the Rift Valley (Longonot, Hell's gate, Naivasha, Lake Nakuru, Mt. Eldoret, Lake Barinog, and/or Lake Bongoria). We're trying to figure out how to plan for transport to and from Nairobi and then between different areas. Finally, we're trying to decide how many days to allocate for this region (and their parts) and decide how much money to budget. Also, I've read about camping in different parts of the Rift Valley--is that safe (animals) and recommended or do you recommend alternative accommodations?

Also, we've never visited before so we'd be so thankful for opinions/review of the places I've listed or ideas for places I haven't learned about yet.

Many thanks!

Hello
My name is Moses from Lake Baringo,I have done trips along that route. I would recommend private means, say hire a self drive or chauffeured for convenience though you can cycle/walk into Hell's gate. Camping would be appropriate at Naiberi camp in Eldoret area though must be damn cold now. You will snake down the beautiful Kerio hills with stop overs at High altitude athletic centre in Iten or Kerio view resort, or still Lelin overland camp. You further drop via tugen hills and down to Lake Baringo at Roberts camp, nice though with rains at the moment the camp is shrinking. The lake is a threat for the resorts along the shores there.

All the best

Hi Ya,

For all those go to Eldoret. There is an excellent guide on accommodation / restaurants / sights / touroperators at the website of Bunch of Backpackers.

You can choose one of those places as your base and explore from there. On the website are some reliable touroperators. The amount of money you'll have to budget depends on your standards.

Good luck!
