Does anyone know how to get hold of The Pig and Whistle Hotel in Meru Kenya? The phone no. in latest version East Africa does not get through to anyone and nothing on the internet.

Or can anyone recommend another economy hotel in the vicinity which has good security?

We only have one spare day here after 7 days trekking on Mt Kenya before heading to Samburu National Reserve.
Any suggestions of where to explore? We will have a car.

I looked up their number on the internet and the ones I found were landlines that may not be working anymore. No cell numbers at all. Cell numbers in Kenya have 9 digits after the +254 country code.

But you got me curious about this place. I've visited Meru many times but never seemed to notice the Pig & Whistle.

I have been at Pig and Whistle last January and it is a moderate accommodation. Lots of locals who visit the bar/terrace, rooms are very basic but clean. It can be noisy due to a club which is right beside the Pig and Whistle. We thought the Pig and Whistle was the best choice in Meru though.

I don't know their number but I think it is quite safe to arrive unanounced. Although in high seaseon, we were the only guests. P&W boasts 10 rooms in total.

Meru is a lovely town, but at nightfall it changes due to several obtrusive people, one group of children tried to mug us (It was stupid we walk around but it felt safe). Better take a taxy when it gets dark. During the day absolutely no problems!

@Christopher: P&W is located on a small hill, facing the church. Right in the city centre.

Thanks so much Roel,
Might just bowl on in there unanounced.

Hi Christopher,

apparently my partner (who grew up in East Africa) told me this is the hotel George and Joy Adamson committed adultery!

Interesting. But which one was the adulterer? Or were they both married to other partners at the time, and committing adultery with each other?
