Virgin Nairobi to Heathrow is $599 return whereas Heathrow to Nairobi is £449.70 return. Book your ticket in Kenya and its cheaper. Single fares seem to be more expensive for some reason.

Buy a cheap Nairobi-London-Nairobi return and don't use the second part of the ticket. Usually cheaper for some reason than a single ticket on BA/Virgin. Logon to the Kenyan sites for both, again always works out cheaper than the UK site.

Thanks for that. I had a look at Virgin Atlantic and it looks as if I could book outward travel from Nairobi in October and return anytime, so if I book the return date for April I may be able to use it for my next trip!

Try some sites like Kayak that does airline comparisons - KLM and Kenya airways usually come up as the cheapest - I have flown both and both ok - food wise KLM is better
