Hi,

My wife and I will be traveling in Tanzania and Kenya (maybe more) for the first 3 weeks of November.
We'd like to hook up with other backpackers while we're there, if we can.
Most importantly, on the 4th or 5th of November (flexible) we're planning to take the train from Mombasa to Nairobi and would like to find two other people that are going at the same time so we can book a four person cabin on the train.

Anyone interested???

Why not go first class, in a 2 berth compartment? It's only $10 more, and beats sharing with strangers.

Two birds, one stone. Meet people and save a bit of money.

Fair enough - if you don't manage to link up beforehand, have a chat to the station staff when you get there. They can probably match you up with another tourist couple to share with.
If you do have to travel separately in the male/female compartments, it's only really separate for sleeping so you can still spend time together on the journey. Plus there's always the dining car - a great place to get chatting to other passengers.

It's a lovely trip, but do be prepared for delays. Last time I was on the train it was New Year's Eve and the people in the compartment next to ours had a bottle of champagne which they shared with us at midnight.

How does this separate male/female compartment thing work? Are all of the compartments segregated by sex?

In 2nd class, yes, I think so - unless it's a family or 4 friends.

Ah. That's why we're looking for some friends here. :-)

Hello
I just want to wish you all the best as you try to find for other companions to join you,but be careful trains especially in Kenya at times they can turn out to be total disappointment because of last minute cancellation or breakdown but all in all ts a nice way of adventure.

Thanks. In addition to the train, we're also just generally looking for other independent travellers in the area. We only have a very vague schedule, but will be in east Africa for three weeks and it would be nice to meet others.
