If he can't help you, and if you want to do a self-drive I also know someone who hires out a 7 seater landcruiser in Nairobi. I can also recomend a self-catering camp site just outside the Sekanani Gate of the Mara NP.
We stayed there with a group of 3 vehicles (12 pax), did self-catering and caught the migration in July/August a couple of years back. We had great fun - and alot cheaper than going with a tour op.

check recommendations here on LP page, and also see what is comfortable with, and your budget.

They offer great Safaris to all East African National Parks.
My friends had a great time last Year on one of their Safaris
Smallmasterr - thank you for your ever present vigulence (Sp?) however it does get a bit tiresome to be continually warned about the bleedin' obvious.

Bundubasher -
There were about 3-4 impersonators below your post, that have now been removed. So now it seems it's directed towards yours, hence maybe your irritation. Sorry for that.
You would be surprised how many folks actually fall for them. Acacia, Jehome, Homestays, etc...these guys have been making quite some money here and quite some unhappy horror-story type safaris for folks that fell for them; on this board. Only by being very proactive will they stop. Granted, moderators have become quicker, but there was a time some months ago that ThornTree was not properly checked and it was messy. Also, Kenya in particular, is bombarded by pretending tourists and what-not.
To you its bleeding obvious, but many out there are bloody internet ignorant.
By the way: vigilence. Send me a beer for that one.
