New since Sep 1st 2015 (?). This thread can be used for all matters regarding this. I'll begin by asking: Approximately how many days does it usually take for a tourist visa application to be approved?

Most people seem to get it the approval form within a day or so. But it's optional to apply like this. You can still apply on arrival, exactly as before, and I haven't heard anything so far that shows that the uploading of documents and paying up front makes any difference to how long it takes you to get through the immigration counters on arrival. Depending on which queue you join, it usually takes between 15 and 30 minutes, whether you have an approval form from the online process, a visa from your local embassy or simply $50/£30 and some blank pages in your passport.

Wikitravel:

"Visas are available for purchase on entry at international airports for almost all nationalities until August 31. Kenya recently implemented an e-visa programme, which will run concurrently with visa on arrival until August 31. After August 31, visa on arrival will no longer be offered, and a prearranged visa is necessary."

The thing about wikitravel is it's no more accurate or up-to-date than the knowledge/up-to-dateness of the last person to work on it. The "online visas only" plan was dropped by the government about a week after it was implemented:

Ok. Both were relatively up-to-date though (and both these changes occured after I had booked the trip)... But I have already applied online. And it's been three days since I did it. Anyone with online application experience who has an idea about how long it could take?

you can still get the Visa on Arrival.
the cost of the visa on Arrival is still $50 or £30.
and yes the online visa was dropped after only one week.

I applied online via ecitizen at the end of August & the visa was approved within 2 working days.

I logged in and noticed there was some (unspecified) problem (which they didn't send any email about) regarding my uploaded documents. I suspect it was because I sent a scanned photo of the passport's bio data page AND another page and not just of the bio data page. When I cut the photo to include just the bio data page and updated the application with it, the application was approved (instantly, for some reason, as if they just wanted another addition to the application, without reviewing what it actually was). So, anyway, my problem is solved.
