Hi there,
Would you recommend any reliable budget tour operator based in Nairobi who could organise 3-4 day safari (Amboseli, Tsavo) that ends in Mombasa?

Contact Sufiyan at tropicaladventuresafaris@gmail.com he lives in Diani with his Polish wife and is very experienced with safaris between Nairobi and the coast. He is a great guy and will cater for any budget and has good reviews on trip advisor. Website is tropicaladventure-safaris.com :)

Dear grzegorzkrol,

Hello!

Am sure Amboseli National park will be easy to do starting from Nairobi, therefore any tour operator from Nairobi can beat that offer. Please try and contact Maasai Trails East Africa they operate budget tours from Nairobi www.maasaitrailseastafrica.com.

All the best on planning friend.

GRZE,
Please be careful. When you post a general call for a tour company, the touts come out of the woodwork...it is against TT rules to beg for business on here, so it calls into question their integrity and ethics...

Because you have asked directly, though, I will recommend Asili Adventure Safaris. It is a Nairobi based company that I have been with 3 times, and I like the idea of dealing with a local company and supporting the local economy. They wouldn't be caught dead trolling for business on here!!!! Email the delightful Joyce Mbote and ask for Joseph Gikunju as a guide. BTW, 3-4 days might better be stretched to 5-6 days for both Tsavo(East and West) and Amboseli....the distances are longer than they look on paper, and you don't want to spend all your time just travelling between parks. Fantastic choices though, you will have an amazing safari!

For the record I am not self promoting I have dealt with Tropical Adventure thats's how I know they are good! But I agree with franandbrian there is some blatant self promotion which always goes on on this forum and it gets very annoying to see especially for those of us who follow the rules.

Oh, and grze(giving my head a shake!) I meant to mention in my earlier post that you may want to increase your budget as well. I know there is a bit of controversy on here about what is the least amount per day per person you can get a safari for...I'm thinking moving
closer to USD150 rather than USD100 for a decent reliable safari when you factor in Park fees, transportation, driver/guide and accommodation. Good luck!

Just a follow-up to franandbrian's comment. There's no way you'll get any kind of safari visiting the national parks between Nairobi and the coast for USD120 per day - or even realistically 150. The daily park fee at Amboseli is currently USD80 per person per day (for 24 hours, timed to the minute) and for Tsavo East and Tsavo West it's USD65 pppd for each park. USD250 per day is a realistic starting price for a budget camping safari, though some super-budget camping operators may be able to do it for USD200 or slightly less.

Caveat emptor…

A point well made, but I earlier read in his forum of a 3-day, 2-night package that included just one day in a park, with the rest of the time made up of (inexpensive) Maasai cultural visits. All camping was outside parks. The package was priced in the mid $300s. I am guessing this formula could become popular with the youth crowd as the prices continue their relentless rise.
