Thanks again guys for the info - I will try to book a flight from Mombasa to Malindi once I'm in Africa, otherwise will get bus/matatu.

I'm not absolutely sure, but I think the only way to fly from Mombasa to Malindi would be via Nairobi.
This would take longer than going by road and cost significantly more - if you have money to burn, just hire a private taxi when you reach Mombasa.
