Our 12-year-old son has been invited to be a guest speaker and judge at a young entrepreneur camp and competition in Nairobi this August because of his own business success. We've already checked out the company and everything there is legit. My husband and I will both be going also but we still have concerns about the general security and health-related concerns. We're all getting the necessary shots.

Does anyone have any input or information that we should be aware of relating to kids traveling to Nairobi? We'll be at the Nairobi company's facility with them except for the day prior at the hotel and a day before we return.

Thanks,
njo

Yes, actually. Never ever travel with children to Kenya - especially if their age is between 11 and 13. (Nobody ever does - anyway)

For your information, there are no kids of this age group anywhere in the city.

This must be because people in Nairobi tend to eat them (I think they have them on toast - for breakfast).

Hope this helps.

Kind Regards

Mwenyeji

Nairobi has a huge expat community as it's the economic capital for all east Africa, plus a humanitarian and UN hub. Manyof these expats have kids of your son's age and there are no more problems than in Western Europe.

There is absolutely no health-related problem in Nairobi. You won't get malaria or yellow fever in the city.

Security is a concern but you'll be fine if you follow the rules, which the company hosting you will provide (example : never walk in the street at night, take a taxi even for short distances).
