If you are looking at visiting mara and Lake Nakuru or Lake Naivasha, 4-5 days will do. Budget wise 480-520usd for 4 days at most. Us we are competent with mountain climbing but for safari part we contract Wildlife In Action Safaris just in case you may reach and inquire from them. There are though many operators in Nairobi and the prices are standard and within that range.

Hello.
We were in Kenya last may, independent low-cost travellers.
You could also travel by public vans... easy to get to Naivasha and around the lake... reach Nakuru... and even Narok and Masai Mara gates.
True, "budget" safaris are around 100$/day and more.
Just consider, entrance fees are really expensive: 80$ Masai Mara and Nakuru!
