I'll be in Nairobi on Sunday 21 December. Travelling solo. I would like to visit the Nairobi National Park on the KWS bus. I also want to do the Giraffe Centre and the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust on the same day, because they are all in the same area (but still a few km apart).

How would I get from the Giraffe Centre to the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust and then to the Nairobi NP main gate (have to be there by 2pm for the KWS bus)? Is it easy to get taxis in that area? Is it a dangerous area?

Also, is the Nairobi NP worth it? Would like to hear from anyone who has done it.

Dear Ronrichie,

Hello! Its worth a full day tour trip, we did the same tour with my family organised by a local friend at Nairobi. Very friendly guy and guide at a budget of our own. You can try and mail him robertmalusha@gmail.com

We did it on our own from Nairobi - just got a matatu there, a bit of a walk from the gate but not bad, and then a matatu back to the city.... no problems at all and didn't have to wait long for one for the return.

Bear in mind that the Sheldrick trust has very small opening hours, which you should check as I can't remember exactly, but think it's for an hour from 11am.

You are correct, bellart...Sheldrick's is only open to the public from 1100 to 1200, unless you are a sponsor of one of the elephants(costs around USD50).

Hi RonRichie,
These three places are distances apart and it might cost you more hiring a taxi from one place to other. I did it once from Nairobi West lands to the Karen Blixen Museum and the animal ophange and paid $55.00 for only two hours! I felt this was rather expensive. I still wanted to visit DSWT, giraffe Manor, giraffe Center and the national park in Nairobi during one of my free days in Nairobi. I ended up contracting e safaris for the service out of a colleague's recommendation. I paid $ 150 for the day and included a vehicle all for myself plus a very nice guide, Charles.
I would recommend that you get in touch with Evelyn. http://www.e-safaris.com or evelyn@e-safaris.com
The company specialises in day trips around Nairobi and I personal think you are best suited booking with a tour operator than picking up taxis on the road. Some are trustworthy but most are cons. Being alone would not recommend one.

If you don't get a taxi, it'll be very time-consuming traveling between Giraffe and Sheldricks.

If you're taking public transportation, you need to take a matatu from the train station towards Langata. If you're going to Giraffe, you have to get down at Nakumatt Galleria (or Bomas) and take another bus or matatu to Hardy. Tell the conductor you want to get down at Giraffe Manor and the bus should drop you off at the sign by the road. From the sign, it's still a good ten to fifteen minute walk to the Manor itself. To get to Sheldricks, you need to go back to Galleria and then take a matatu that plys Magadi Rd. Get down opposite Multimedia University. That's where the gate to Sheldricks is. And surprise surprise, it's another ten minute walk to Sheldricks from the gate.

I'm not sure if there's still a KWS bus service for Nairobi NP. Have you checked? But if I recall correctly, it used to leave from Moi Ave in town.
