Tomorrow evening I land in Nairobi. Just found out I need to get a visa through the internet before arrival. I did this but the system said it might take several days to process the request.
Does anyone know if you can get some kind of speed visa after arrival?

They have been having some trouble with the evisa, so as of now you can still get a visa on arrival at the airport.

Fly without visa and just avail yourself at the Visa department at the airport and get a Tourist Visa right away.

Something for the moderators - this change by Kenya needs a bit more " air time" . As for how our OP can handle the situation. You should have received a receipt that confirms that you have paid for your " e_visa" , bring this with you as proof that you have paid the required fee. Kenyan Immigration "should" then grant you your Visa on Arrival. If you get hassled - as the processing officer to get his/her supervisor who should be able to "fix" your problem. (BTW do not offer to pay an additional fee until a senior officer raises the issue!!).

The e-Visa system has been a bit of a muddle. Visa on arrival, EXACTLY as before, is still a perfectly valid option and worked fine for me last night, along with dozens of other people in the lines at Arrivals at JKIA Nairobi. If you have applied for your visa in advance through the e-Visa system, do bring a printout of the approval form with you, which you hand in with your passport. You will still have to go through exactly the same immigration process as everyone else, so there seems to be no advantage at all. The main difference? With e-Visa the money goes straight into the account of some department or other in Nairobi, presumably under the Ministry of the Interior. If you pay cash on arrival, the money then has to be passed on by the immigration officer, and presumably a lot of it doesn't go where it's supposed to… You should get a receipt.

Due to internet problems I had no opportunity yet to thank you all properly for your answers. Thank you! :-) I read your replies before flying into Nairobi so that was a big relief. You could get a visa easily, the waiting time was just 5 mins. I did not try to get my 50 dollars back because of possible hassle. -- PS Richard: nice to see your reply, we've used several of your guides!

I'm flying to Kenya on February 20th on a trip organised at the last minute due to a job falling through. I don't have a specific itinerary and wish to play it by ear. However, the eVisa site states that I need to supply an itinerary and accommodation details for the duration of my trip (7 weeks). Does anyone know if this is set in stone or can I just mention one or two hostels I'll be using in the first week or so and hope that will suffice?

Many thanks in advance,

Shaun

You really don't need to worry about the eVisa site. Just get your visa on arrival, which is still perfectly straightforward (£30/$50/€40, cash only, new notes, no photos required). Getting your visa in advance is not mandatory. One of the reasons why the eVisa site didn't take off as the Department of Immigration hoped was because of cases exactly like yours.

Have a good trip!
