Hi,

We're travelling overland from Cairo to Cape Town (by bicycle).

We know that a visa for Kenya is required before entry into the country.

We shall also be travelling to Uganda and Rwanda.

I can't find much information on the EAC visa online. Is it only available at airports or is it available at embassies prior to arrival in Kenya?

Can I obtain the joint EAC visa for these countries at one of their embassies in either Khartoum or Addis Ababa. If I can, which embassy is the easiest to get one?

Note that we intend to enter Kenya by the west Turkana route which itself isn't a 'proper' border crossing. Does the EAC visa require a stamp at nearest 'official' border as the Kenyan visa would?

Many thanks!

yes you can get a East African visa at the Kenya embassy in Khartoum or Addis Ababa.
it will save you $80. as to get all 3 visas for Kenya $50, Uganda $100 and Rwanda $30 would cost $180.
the cost of the Tanzania visa is $50. Malawi is now $75. Zambia $50. Mozambique $60.

where did you get you Sudan visa from as in Aswan it is $50. Cairo it is $100 and then need letter from your Embassy.

Hello.
We travelled southern and eastern Africa, low cost independent travellers.
We didn´t go to Ethiopia or South Sudan...
We got our EA visa online via Rwanda cause entering from Tanzania to Rwanda. Yes, 100$ 3 months for Uganda+Rwanda+Kenya.
We know travellers got EA visa entering Kenya from Ethiopia, they told us. Now, Kenya has changed some laws, check the official immigration website... cause need online visa before getting to border...
True now Uganda visa is 100$ and visa needed for Malawi.

For wild life, much cheaper in southern Africa. Don´t miss Botswana, not true it´s expensive.
Details of our trip, prices, budget, accommodation, etc. on our blog. Uganda is great for backpackers. North Kenya is remote with tribes... Tanzania can be boring cause big...
Safe trip! Enjoy!

Hi mate,

I'm also travelling by bike from Cairo to Cape Town! I obtained the East Africa Tourist visa from the Ugandan Embassy in Addis Ababa. It took 24 hours, and the requirements include a "supporting letter" from someone in Uganda (a hotel reservation will do fine) and a bank statement. It cost $100. I also visited the Rwandan and Kenyan Embassies in Addis but neither of them are currently offering the EAC visa.

Sorry I'm not able to comment on your other questions.

Good luck on your trip!

Thanks for the advice! It will certainly speed things up in Addis.

Now, I just hope there won't be any problems with presenting the EAC visa on the Ethiopia/Kenya 'border post' on the West Turkana route.
