I'm planning a 4 month trip in Africa and a couple of weeks of it will be in Kenya. As I guess I will do a trekking or two, I wonder if it's worth bringing my own camping equipment (e.g. tent, stove) or if it's an easy affair to hire at local agencies, shops or at the trailheads. What's your experience regarding camping gear in Kenya ?

I did the Mt. Kenya trek, hired a sleeping bag in Nanyuki town from my Agent, was a down bag, nice and toasty and for 4-nights they charged KSh1000. They had gloves, tents, boots and packs for hire as well, but I didn't need them. As for stoves, can't help you there. But for basic kit, easy to find...

Phil,
thank's a lot for your advice. Do you remember the name of the company you went with ?
I wonder if it's normally easy to find other independent travellers who are interested to form a group and go for a trek, what was your approach ?
