Hi there,
Has anyone done the bus from Nairobi to Dar es Salaam? Just wondering if its safe, what the roads are like...if we should fly. Don't have a big budget so would rather spend the money on an excursion or something, but if anyone has any advice we'd really appreciate it.
Thanks in advance.

Hi
There are many buscompanies drving that route - via Arusha - Moshi. AKAMBA is one - Scandinavian another.
So YES you can easily take the bus.
The roads are general ok tarred. of course there are some potholes and many speedbumps.

And definately yes it is cheaper to go by bus
regards

I have used Scandinavian Bus line. I believe that they go to Dare es Sallam. They are a clean and on time. I would go a week in advance to the station in Nairobi and buy the ticket. The coach bus station offices are located in a sketchy area of town so I would bring a local with you that you trust if you don't speak Kiswahili. I would also recommend taking a taxi or having a friend drop you off at the station if you coach leaves early in the morning instead of taking a mattatu.
