Hello,
I am planning on spending about ten days in Kenya from the end of December to the beginning of January. I will be traveling with my family which includes two children aged 9 and 7. I was most interested in spending time in Northern Kenya, but the lodges I've priced there are extremely expensive. Are their any budget options available? Or any budget safaris available in other parts of Kenya that you would recommend? We don't need to go bare bones and would like some comfort, however the lodges I found in Northern Kenya would run about $2000 a night for our family which we can't afford. Thank you!

What do you mean by Northern Kenya? If you are talking about Samburu area, check out the mid-range lodges such as Ashnil, Samburu Game Lodge, Sarova, etc. Also, elephant bedroom camp in Samburu is a really lovely tented camp and sometimes has great deals.
If you're looking to visit the Lake Turkana area, Eliye Springs is a very lovely place near Lodwar and they have their own speed boats to take you around the Lake and to Central Island. In Sibiloi national park , KWS has some cottages that were comfortable to stay in, although they might be self-catering... However, Turkana area may be uncomfortably hot that time of the year...
And, if you mean the Laikipia area, look at Ol Pejeta park and Sweetwaters tented camp. Also, El Karama is a nice lodge on it's own conservancy and is reasonably priced compared to other similar private conservancies in Laikipia.
Unfortunately, that Christmas/New year period is high season in Kenya, so you'll have to hunt around a bit to get a good deal, but there are definitely places that will be cheaper than $2000 a night!
Hi whether is private or group 2000usd is much more, there are several and good lodges and camps which offers serenity and quality services exactly as outlined by Kriedel above. Depending with the number of days you are looking at I would say a budget of from 180-230usd per person per day will do and sleep in good lodges if not high end ones. Though in Laikipia there are high end ones that can charge what you have mentioned. But you can go Luxury but reasonable budget. Talk to Wildlife In Action Safaris at your own time they can give you highlights of the same. Rozie is the best person to address as she is competent and knowledgeable.

Thanks so much for your replies. Sorry, I should have been more specific. I'm looking at Laikipia because it's an area of Kenya that I haven't visited already and I like the fact that it is malaria free for my kids. I will look into the options you recommended, thanks so much.
