Hi
I have 4-5 days for a Kenya safari in Jan and am thinking Amboseli Tsavo West & Tsavo East Safari or Masai Mara/Lake Nakuru
Any recommendations?
I have been to mara many years ago but my partner hasn't,
Budget and quality flexible, happy for recommendations.
I am assuming a local operator is better than lodges direct?
Thanks

I was in amboseli and Tsavo West this January and it was great. I haven't been to the Masai Mara but I believe it is further from Nairobi and it won't be big migration time. My family used www.transtreksafaris.com who organised a great trip and were very flexible.

Hi Justin, I had the same question put to me many times before. Please mail this company, they will be able to help you www.bestsafariafrica.com

I should actually correct my first reply, Mara and amboseli are actually about the same journey Tim from Nairobi. I spoke to a guide that is at my lodge and he recommended tsavo and amboseli for that time of year. Also I would recommend Taita hills sanctuary, and stay in saltlick sarova lodge, I'm here with my girlfriend and its really super with the rooms up in the air and with loads of wildlife around all the time!

- January is virtually peak summer in Kenya so very hot;
- The migration is over the border in Tanzania - Serengeti so the Mara is almost devoid of the mass number of animals that usually attract attention;
- Tsavo and Amboseli are still on my bucket list and for me are very important. There will not be a lot of "large numbers of wildebeest" but there are elephants, hippo and now rhino and some of the best remaining bush scenes in East Africa. Plus if the weather cooperates you get those great views of the northern side of Mt Kilimanjaro.
Only problem - I would definitely opt for at least 5 days - 6 if possible. One day from Nairobi to Amboseli - 2 days in this park and a late drive down to Tsavo - 2 full days in Tsavo and then a long long day back to Nairobi (5 days) 6 would allow better scheduling. Cheers
hi,
Hope great. I would do the Mara, Lake nakuru with a bit of Lake bogoria for the hot springs.
The Tsavo is also good if you are more keen on the big game as well as lions.
Hope to hear from you with your liking!!
