Can anyone, with recent experience, recommend a decent reasonably priced place to stay in Nairobi. It would only be for one night in between a flight to Nairobi and bus to Mombasa.

Thanks

If you don't mind the "basics", you can simply crash at the YMCA (South-C). It is midway between the airport and town (which is where I presume you will be getting your bus connection).

Should cost around GB£10 for B&B.

The accomodation in central nairobi is either quit expensive or grotty. You can try Salama Annex (next to Annie Oakley's nightclub) in Milimani about 5 mins from the centre by taxi. They will ask for about 1800 Shillings for the best room but you should be able to negotiate down to say 1200 (about GBP10) Rooms quite big and comfortable though a bit faded

Depends on what you mean by "reasonably" priced...if you want something in the city center that is decent, I agree with #1 about Country Lodge. Rooms are around 65 USD/night and breakfast is included.

Africatheworld, according to their website their rates are substantially higher (5100 Kshs for a single and 7800 Kshs for a double). I know that almost knowbody is paying the official rate but I'd like to ask nevertheless: Did you really get the room for 65 $ ?

Its a bit more now. The dollar has been falling versus the Kenyan shilling, but their Ksh rate is still the same.

Panafrique is comfortable and has great breakfast. It's not the cheapest but the service is great and it's modern.

Heron Hotel was great - you could choose between premium rooms (recently renovated) or budget (yet to be renovated.) We chose budget and found the hotel comfortable. Breakfast was included. The big thing for us was security (we were there in the wake of the riots) and Heron was very safe.
